Funimation Now Gives The Legendary "Akira" And Other Anime A Blu-ray Release

Guess what: Funimation is rereleasing the legendary anime film Akira on Blu-ray. Also some others, but really, most of you are probably only going to care about Akira.

Funimation is proud to announce that they’re finally bringing this legendary cyberpunk anime film by director Katsuhiro Otomo to Blu-ray in all of its bloody glory. This Blu-ray release even comes with a bunch of special features like sound clips, an interview with Otomo himself, the behind the scenes of restoring the footage, and even the original trailers and commercials. For those of you who’ve never watched Akira before, here’s the official synopsis from Funimation to catch you up to speed:

“In the future, Shotaro Kaneda and his motorcycle gang tear through Neo Tokyo, a city divided by growing tensions. But when caught in an accident, Kaneda’s friend Tetsuo Shima discovers a secret government project and receives psychic abilities beyond his control.”

Akira will release on January 18, 2022. You can preorder it right now on the Funimation shop. The usual retail price is $29.98.
