Are you ready to return to the Wizarding World? It’s almost time to dive into a new chapter of Fantastic Beasts.
Today Warner Bros. revealed the official trailer for Secrets of Dumbledore, the third film in the Harry Potter universe detailing the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamandar. The feature picks up following the events of the previously released Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
And speaking of Grindelwald, this trailer features the official debut of Mads Mikkelsen in the role of the powerful dark wizard. Mikkelsen replaced Johnny Depp, who played Grindelwald in the first two Fantastic Beasts films.
Check out your first look at The Secrets of Dumbledore (and Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald) in the trailer below.
Beyond casting shakeups, there’s plenty of Wizarding World references and Easter eggs to catch in the trailer, from characters like Aberforth Dumbledore to Hufflepuff finally getting awarded some house points. We even get a little rule breaking, as Muggle Jacob (Dan Fogler) gets his own magic wand. And of course, Harry Potter fans will always be excited for any chance to return to Hogwarts.
In Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?
In addition to Law, Mikkelsen, Redmayne, and Fogler, the film stars Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams, William Nadylam, and Katherine Waterston. The film sees David Yates return to the Wizarding World’s director’s chair. Yates directed the previous two Fantastic Beasts films, as well as films 5 – 8 of the original Harry Potter franchise.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will hit theaters April 15, 2022.
