Those that don’t die in a Halloween film are destined to reprise their role in yet another Halloween film. (Also, those that do die return sometimes. It’s a flexible universe.)

In this case, we’re talking about the return of Kyle Richards. Richards joined the cast of the horror franchise’s most recent installment, Halloween Kills. According to Variety, after the Real Housewives star garnered positive reception from fans in the movie, the filmmakers re-wrote the Halloween Ends script to include her character again.

“When my character didn’t die, I was like, ‘Uhh, hello!’” Richards told Variety.

Richards actually appeared in the original John Carpenter Halloween movie, though she was only eight years old at the time. She played the child Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode babysat back in 1978. Richards said she hopes the upcoming film will see her share the screen with Curtis. (Their characters didn’t interact in Halloween Kills.)

“The last movie, I saw Jamie on the set, but we didn’t have stuff together. So I’m really hoping that there is more stuff together,” Richards said. “I can’t talk about any storylines, but all I can say is that we start filming in January, and I’m so excited to return with Jamie Lee Curtis and David Gordon Green.”

Halloween Ends will serve as the final installment in David Gordon Green’s new trilogy in the slasher franchise. Green first revisited the series with 2018’s Halloween. The movie proved a massive success, raking in over $250 million worldwide (after its creation on a $10 million budget). The sequel, Halloween Kills, didn’t reach quite that height during the pandemic box office. Still, it did more than well enough for the studio to line up the final film in the trilogy.

Halloween Ends heads into production next month, and plans to release in time for – you guessed it – Halloween 2022.
