Get ready for a blast from the past, DCTV fans. Robbie Amell will return to The Flash in the second half of season 8.
Amell will appear in two episodes of the show following the midseason break. Entertainment Weekly reports the first of these appearances will be in episode 11.
Amell portrayed Ronnie Raymond back in the show’s first season. Ronnie worked at S.T.A.R Labs alongside his fiancé, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker). When a particle accelerator exploded, everyone believed Ronnie was dead. But in reality, the accident fused him with Martin Stein (Victor Garber), creating the superhero Firestorm. However, his resurrection was short-lived; the season 1 finale saw Ronnie sacrifice himself to save Central City from a wormhole.
Amell last appeared on The Flash in season 3, when the Speed Force energy appeared to Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) as Ronnie. And though his season 8 appearance remains several episodes (and months) away, the show did reference Ronnie in the season premiere. (Caitlin mentions him in the context of telling Barry she’s ready to start dating again… Looks like drama incoming!)
Season 8 of The Flash will also see another first season cast member return. Rick Cosnett, who played Iris’s (Candice Patton) fiancé Eddie Thawne, will reportedly appear in a flashback. However, EW reports Cosnett and Amell won’t appear in the same episode.
The Arrowverse also had another Firestorm reunion recently. Garber and Franz Drameh—whose character Jax replaced Robbie as the other half of Firestorm—appeared in the 100th episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
And plenty more big appearances are expected on The Flash before the series goes on hiatus. The show is currently airing the “Armageddon” arc, which sees Barry and the team go up against the alien Desperado. The five-episode story features appearances from across the Arrowverse, including Batwoman’s Javicia Leslie, Black Lightning’s Cress Williams, Supergirl’s Chyler Leigh, Arrow’s Katherine McNamara, and more.
The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8pm on the CW. Ahead of his return to the series, you can catch Amell in the new film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
