Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye is set a bit later than we all expected it to be. The show, according to director Rhys Thomas is set two years after Avengers: Endgame. In an interview with GamesRadar, he spoke about the show and gave some small details about how it fits into the MCU as a whole. Hawkeye follows Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) as he runs into Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and has to show her the ropes of being a hero. All the way, he has to make it home on time to be with his family for the holidays. The show premieres this Wednesday, November 24th with two episodes and has new episodes through the holiday season.
The schedule for Marvel’s Phase 4 was disrupted by COVID-19 related scheduling issues and delays. It’s a somewhat confusing jumble of stories and timelines, but Hawkeye is the last point so far on the timeline. Here’s what Thomas had to say:
We get to see where he’s at, we’re two years after the events of Endgame. And so we get to see what he’s been doing and how he’s dealing with his past.
Rhys Thomas to GamesRadar
If it makes sense, that means that Hawkeye takes place after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, WandaVision, Loki, and more with pretty wide-ranging and Earth-altering events. Remember that in Avengers: Endgame, there was a 5 year time jump to 2023. There are plenty of events that changed during that time period between Endgame and Hawkeye. The world knows who Spider-Man is, there’s a new Captain America, and a 300-mile tall Celestial sits in the Ocean. We’ll have to see what kind of story Hawkeye tells when it releases.
