Hold on to your webs, Spidey fans. It looks like we may be in for a long one with Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Though the official length of the feature has yet to be released by Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures, a Brazilian movie ticketing website lists the film as 2 hours, 39 minutes long. [Update: Since publishing, the run time listed on Ingresso was taken down.] That makes No Way Home the longest Spider-Man movie to date.
Tom Holland’s previous solo Spider-Man films both ran around half an hour shorter. (Homecoming clocks in at 2 hours, 13 minutes; Far From Home is 2 hours, 9 minutes.)
The projected No Way Home runtime also outpaces previous Spidey franchises. Tobey Maguire’s original trio of Spider-Man films had runtimes of 121 minutes, 127 minutes, and 139 minutes respectively. The Andrew Garfield-fronted Amazing Spider-Man films ran longer than Holland’s first two features (2 hours 16 minutes for the first, 2 hours 22 minutes for the sequel), but that still puts them behind No Way Home’s length.
Again, no official word from Marvel yet, but it makes sense that Spider-Man: No Way Home will run long. The film picks up after the events of Far From Home, in which Peter Parker’s identity becomes public. Attempting to preserve his Spidey secret, Peter seeks help from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). But the spell accidentally creates a ripple in the multiverse, leading to a whole host of new problems (and villains) for Peter to deal with.
With Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus set to appear, and even more huge names rumored (Maguire and Garfield’s Spideys among them), it’s not much of a surprise this movie will run long. The trailer teased multiple villains, sure to keep Spider-Man busy. Plus, No Way Home marks Holland’s third and final (as far as Marvel has announced) solo Spider-Man feature. No doubt they’ll want to give him a good last run.
Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters December 17.
