While we’re all eagerly awaiting Spider-Man: No Way Home, another Spiderverse story draws closer, too. Morbius hits theaters in January, and Sony’s teasing a closer look at the movie today.
The teaser clip features star Jared Leto discussing the ups and downs of his character and what fans can expect from the movie. Check out the vignette below, “Who is Morbius?”
The clip intercuts Leto’s interview with footage from the upcoming feature. And perhaps most importantly to fans, offers a little tease about the future of the Spiderverse.
“It will be fun to see where we can go with that,” says Leto. “There’s a web of opportunity.”
The comment seems to reference the potential for interconnected stories – a web, if you will – within the Sony-Marvel universe. Earlier this year, Sony announced it would officially dub its extended universe of Spider-Man flicks “Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.” That universe includes movies like Venom and Into the Spider-Verse, as well as Morbius.
In the film, dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and Morbius’ good must override evil to conquer – or succumb to – his dark new urges.
In addition to Leto, the film stars Adria Arjona, Tyrese Gibson, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Al Madrigal.
Morbius premieres in theaters January 28, 2022.
