What do you get when Skydance and Marvel assemble into action? Well, apparently, you get a brand new AAA game.

Hmm, perhaps we might finally get a good Avengers game?

Marvel announces that their Marvel Games division is assembling with Skydance New Media. Their mission? To develop a new “narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe”. And that’s about it for now. I mean, they’ve only just announced their team-up. It’s not like they’d have a release date for this new AAA game or anything like that. Not soon, at any rate.

The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. The only thing we have to go on about this new AAA game is the genre. This sounds like it could be another attempt at an Avengers game. Maybe they’ll even make it a good one this time. This is just speculation though. We’ll have to wait for either Marvel Games or Skydance New Media to give us more info later.

So what is Skydance New Media, you might ask? Well, it’s a pretty new branch of Skydance Media, and is their second game studio after Skydance Interactive. This new branch of Skydance Media was founded back in November 2019 by award-winning writer and director Amy Hennig and EA veteran Julian Beak.

Oddly enough though, despite Hennig’s claims above, this new AAA Marvel game isn’t going to be their first game. No, that honor will go to the upcoming action role-playing game Forspoken. At least, when it comes out sometime in Spring 2022 for PC and PS5, that is.

Okay, that was cool. Pun intended.

So the fact that Hennig claims that this AAA Marvel game will be their first game is a bit confusing. Did Hennig misspeak, or does this mean that this AAA Marvel game will come out before Forspoken? I guess we’ll have to wait for Skydance New Media to clear that up for us later.
