Hello everyone, your friendly neighborhood Professor Hulk here. I’m about to drop some knowledge on some exciting stuff going on in the film and TV world. Last week we shared with you details on Supergirl. This week, we’re talking about Star Wars.
After the success of Star Wars: Visions and Marvel’s What If…?, Disney is looking to expand its animated offerings. One idea that I’ve heard from multiple insider sources; is that Disney has had an idea for the past few years of taking Ralph McQuarrie’s original art style for the Star Wars trilogy and re-imagining it with that aesthetic. Keeping some changes to characters in as a way to show an alternative take on Star Wars, and to pay homage to McQuarrie, whose art style helped define the visuals of a galaxy far, far away.
The Details Of The Drafts And The “What If…?” Style Star Wars Films
Currently, writers are writing an outline for all three films, that will be familiar to long-time fans but will see some deviations to the story as the basis of these three films is the original second draft of what eventually became Star Wars: A New Hope. Originally titled, Adventures of the Starkiller, Episode I: The Star Wars, the draft was starting to take shape but some elements of the original film were wildly different.. One of the bigger changes sees Luke Skywalker now a character called Deak Starkiller, who instead of a young man seeking adventure is already an established Jedi and captain of the rebel starfighter attacked during the opening scenes of A New Hope.
While the first film is in a way already written as it’s based on a draft of A New Hope, it’s said that the other two films will blend elements of that 2nd draft, while also keeping things familiar with regards to what happens in Empire Strike Back and Return Of the Jedi. The writers are currently working on scripts that blend these elements together in a way that’s going to be familiar and yet fresh for long-time fans.
As this is a re-imagining, don’t expect any of the cast (i.e Mark Hamill or Harrison Ford) to lend their vocal talents; however, it’s said that there will be some audio cameos from actors in the Star Wars universe.
The project is still in early development, so while a release window is not known; it’s likely not coming anytime before 2023.

This is a really interesting idea. Even though I’m not a huge Marvel fan, the “What if..?” Series has been really enjoyable. With that in mind something similar for Star Wars could be phenomenal. I’ve always loved Ralph McQuarrie’s concept art, and I would most definitely watch this if it ever makes it passed early development.
