Iron Maiden might’ve lost out on the number one spot in the UK to Drake, but the band has some good news. They’ve earned their highest spot on the Billboard 200 chart, debuting at number 3 on the charts in the US. Their previous highest spot on the charts was tied with The Book of Souls and The Final Frontier at number 4. Senjutsu is their 15th top 40-charting album in their career. They’ve had four top 10 charting albums also.
This all adds up to a smashing success critically and commercially for Senjutsu. For the year, it’s the second highest selling week for a hard rock album in the US. The Foo Fighters‘ Medicine at Midnight was the only album that sold more. It just goes to show that no matter how many times people say “rock is dead”, Maiden and Co. are proving that wrong. The album is a fantastic piece of their history and if you haven’t heard it, you need to. In our review, we gave the album a 95% , celebrating the tracks “Hell on Earth”, “The Parchment”, and “Death of the Celts” in particular.
The new album is selling incredibly well around the world, and seeing it break through in the US is great. With the charts dominated by Pop music these days, it’s nice to see some heavy metal on it.
