Last week, our friends at The Disinsider ran a story about how Disney was putting out a casting call for deaf Native American or Latinx actors for a Marvel series. At the time, they couldn’t confirm that it was for the upcoming series Echo or not. Based on what we have heard from our sources, we can confirm that this casting call was for the upcoming Echo series.

The series tells the story of Maya Lopez, who’s codename is Echo. Her powers include copying the movements and fighting style of her opponents. She was the first one to use the title of Ronin in the comics. Alaqua Cox is playing the character on the show and is appearing first on the upcoming Hawkeye series starring Jeremy Renner and Haylee Steinfeld.

The Disinsider’s casting report and the Tweet they got the info from went like this:

JESSICA – Female, 15-18 years old, Native American or Latinx, Deaf. Strong, fiercely independant and unwavering. Can tend towards sullen at times. *Fluent in ASL.

IRIS – Female, Late 20s/Early 30s, Native American or Latinx, Deaf. Warm and nurturing. *Fluent in ASL.

The report is asking specifically for people who are hard of hearing or deaf and Native American or Latinx.

So, with an Echo series on the way, and this casting, what do you think they’ll do with Echo?
