First Wakanda, now Gotham. Winston Duke is certainly making himself at home in the world of superheroes.
The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed Duke will take on the role of DC’s Caped Crusader in the new Spotify scripted podcast Batman Unburied. Accompanying Duke’s Bruce Wayne will be Jason Isaacs in the role of Alfred, the bat’s trusty butler.
Batman Unburied comes from The Dark Knight screenwriter David S. Goyer. According to the official logline, the audience will meet Bruce Wayne as a forensic pathologist, working in the bowels of Gotham Hospital and tasked with examining the victims of The Harvester, a gruesome serial killer preying on Gotham’s citizens. Not only will the superhero be forced to face his own mental demons, but he will also have to overcome them in order to save the citizens of Gotham as his alter-ego Batman.
Spotify describes the project as a psychological thriller diving into the mind of Bruce Wayne. It also promised fans “dark twists and classic Batman villains.”
Duke is known for his Marvel role as M’Baku in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. He is slated to reprise that role in the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Harry Potter actor Isaacs has done a good bit of voice work in the past, including for Star Wars: Rebels. He can next be seen in Netflix’s third season of Sex Education.
Batman Unburied hits Spotify as part of a scripted content deal between DC and the platform. You can hear Goyer and DC CCO Jim Lee tease more about the project in the clip below.
