James Wan returns to his terrifying roots with a new original horror thriller, Malignant.
The film follows Madison (Annabelle Wallis), a woman paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders. But her torment only worsens when she realizes her waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.
Check out the trailer for the movie below:
The Malignant trailer has a creepy dream-like quality to it, with the way reality fades in and out around Madison. It toes the line between “sleep paralysis terror” and something more slasher-flick. All in all it adds up to a pretty solid looking horror flick!
But for all the James Wan fans out there, that won’t come as a surprise. After all, Wan’s brought fans huge horror hits like The Conjuring, Saw, and Insidious. He directs Malignant from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (upcoming The Nun 2 writer).
Along with Wan’s guidance, Malignant will bring in the big guns to set the right scary atmosphere; The music comes from Joseph Bishara, who scored all seven features in The Conjuring universe.
In addition to Wallis in the lead role, the cast includes Maddie Hasson (Mr. Mercedes); George Young (Containment); Michole Briana White (Dead to Me); Jacqueline McKenzie (Reckoning); Jake Abel (Supernatural); and Ingrid Bisu (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun).
Malignant premieres in theaters September 10. Thanks to Warner Bros’ current HBO Max arrangement, the film will also hit the streaming platform the same day.
