Who can lead a classic musical, play a superhero, and transform into a Disney princess? The fairest of them all – Rachel Zegler!
Zegler will portray Snow White in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the fairy tale. Production will begin sometime in 2022, but you can catch Zegler in big-screen action long before that. She’s set to lead Steven Spielberg’s upcoming West Side Story as Maria. You’ll also catch her in Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods.
Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) will direct the yet-untitled Snow White pic.
“Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale,” Webb said.
Zegler took to Twitter to express her excitement in the project, tweeting “I HAVE MANIFESTED MY ENTIRE LIFE I THINK” when the news dropped. She also shared several of her previous tweets about Disney princesses.
The upcoming Snow White feature will include new music, composed by one of the best songwriting duos in the biz: Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. They previously created songs for huge hits like The Greatest Showman, La La Land, and Dear Evan Hansen.
The Snow White fairy tale has been adapted for film several times in the past, starting with the Disney’s 1937 animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Later, 2012 debuted Mirror Mirror starring Julia Roberts and Lily Collins. There’s also Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman films with Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart.
Other Disney live-action remakes in the works include The Little Mermaid and Pinocchio.
So, what do you think of Zegler joining the Disney princess family? What sort of take do you want to see on a new Snow White story? Let us know in the comments.
