After seemingly endless pandemic delays, Black Widow will finally arrive on July 9!
The latest Marvel feature will dive into Natasha Romanoff’s past, revealing new details about the origin of her character. This blast from the past brings a few new characters into the MCU: Yelena (Florence Pugh), a Black Widow and Natasha’s sister; the Red Guardian (David Harbour), Natasha’s super soldier father; and Melina (Rachel Weisz), a Black Widow from another generation and Natasha’s mother.
With Pugh, Harbour, and Weisz joining the Marvel family, we wanted to know – besides Natasha, which MCU character would they want to see their character team up with?
Harbour had a particularly interesting answer.
“Who’d I like to team up with? I mean, oh god, none of them,” joked Harbour. “I consider myself so extraordinary, so above all their mere pedestrian powers.”
He continued, “I mean I don’t know if it’s “team up with”…but I really love the Falcon character. I love Anthony Mackie just as an actor too. And now that he’s wearing the Cap suit and everything, and the amount of complexity that Alexei has with Cap in general, whoever wears the suit. Like, he hates that guy, and he hates who he represents. But also in [Black Widow] some of the funniest stuff to me is where he’s like, ‘Cap actually was a colleague of mine. We had a lot of respect for each other.’ I just think that dynamic would be really fun to see those guys, have some stuff together.
Harbour’s character, the Red Guardian, is basically the Soviet version of Captain America – he’s a super soldier and patriotic hero. He’s also clashed with Captain America before. So Harbour’s right in thinking this would prove a fun dynamic to explore on screen.
As for who Pugh and Weisz would like to see Yelena and Melina team up with? Well, they’re on the same page about that, actually.
“The Hulk,” Weisz answered immediately.
“Oh no, I was gonna say The Hulk!” responded Pugh. “Will you share?”
“Yeah,” Weisz confirmed. “Imagine if you could control him, you’d have like the ultimate weapon.”
“I think Melina could control him,” said Pugh.
You can meet the Red Guardian, Yelena, and Melina soon.
Black Widow premieres in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access July 9.
