The upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman just announced a ton of cast members!
First up, Tom Sturridge’s Dream found his siblings in Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, and Donna Preston. Howell-Baptiste will play Death. Park and Preston play twins Desire and Despair respectively. Patton Oswalt joins the cast as well as the voice of Dream’s trusted emissary, Matthew the Raven.
Doctor Who alum Jenna Coleman will play Johanna Constantine, Occult Adventuress for Hire. (She’s also John Constantine’s great-great-great-grandmother.)
Niamah Walsh will play young Ethel Cripps, a betrayed and determined young woman trying to survive. When the show moves out of the past, Joely Richardson takes over as the character, now a master thief. David Thewlis plays Ethel’s son, John Dee. Dee was driven mad long ago, and now he’s on a quest that may destroy the world.
When The Sandman moves into its next storyline, “The Doll’s House,” it adds new characters, including:
Kyo Ra as Rose Walker, a young woman desperately searching for her missing brother when she discovers a connection to Dream that neither can escape. She’s joined by her best friend and traveling companion, Lyta Hall, played by Razane Jammal.
Sandra James Young joins as Unity Kincaide, heiress and Rose’s mysterious benefactor. Stephen Fry also stars as Gilbert, Rose’s protector.
Based on Gaiman’s popular comic book series, The Sandman combines mythology, dark fantasy, and historical drama in one. The series follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, aka Dream, as he tries to fix all the cosmic and human mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.
Allen Heinberg serves as executive producer, showrunner, and co-writer on the series. David S. Goyer also serves as co-writer and executive producer. A release date has not yet been set.
