Do you get a little cranky when you don’t get enough sleep? Imagine that ramped up to a hundred, and you’ve got Awake.

In this upcoming Netflix thriller, a mysterious occurrence somehow takes away humanity’s ability to sleep. Then things get a little…tense. Watch the trailer for the Gina Rodriguez-fronted flick below.

Personally, I’m a little confused how the electronic blackout ties into the sleep deprivation thing. (If I had to guess, we’ll get some sciencey mumbo-jumbo about the brain’s electrical signals or something as an explanation…) But I suppose it’s a “watch and see” kind of thing.

Here’s the official description of Awake from Netflix:

Global hysteria ensues after a mysterious catastrophe wipes out all electronics and takes away humanity’s ability to sleep. Scientists race against the clock to find a cure for the unexplained insomnia before its fatal effects eliminate the human race. When Jill, a former soldier, discovers her young daughter may be the key to salvation, she must decide: protect her children at all costs or sacrifice everything to save the world.

The film stars Rodriguez, Ariana Greenblatt, Frances Fisher, Shamier Anderson, Finn Jones, Lucius Hoyos, and Gil Bellows, with Barry Pepper and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It comes from director Mark Raso.     

Awake premieres on Netflix June 9.
