Last week we talked about the return of Norman Osborn to the MCU. This week, we’re talking about Sony’s film plans for their Souls (Dark Souls, Demon Souls) franchise, and in particular, Bloodborne.
For those unfamiliar, the Souls franchise is a series of games where players battle demonic and gruesome monsters. As players engage in grueling (and particularly difficult) fights they gain souls to level up, and new gear to equip on their hero. These games have gained notoriety as of late for their incredible difficulty and grotesque monster designs.
Since partnering with HBO on the upcoming Last Of Us series, Sony and HBO are both keen to bring more franchises to HBO Max. We can exclusively share that Bloodborne is in early development as a limited run series.
The Details Of Bloodborne The Series
An early version of the script exists along with some concept art, both of which I’ve seen. The story will be similar in structure to movies like Dread or The Raid, with the protagonist set with a seemingly simple task but has to work through a series of battles with enemies. Each episode of the proposed 8-episode season sees the protagonist fighting a boss from the game in the climax. Between what I’ve seen in the script and of concept art, these will be visual feasts for the eyes, and in keeping with the Souls brand of bloody violence.
Sony is currently dissatisfied with some elements of the script and it is undergoing a re-write. Though, many elements, including the climatic boss fight for each episode, remain. We don’t have any casting news. However, it’s said they are looking for a lead actor who has a strong background in stunt work.

Is this legit?
I dont know but if so I will def watch it! Even tho i can see it being a bit cringe with the acting. Alot of from softs beauty in their games is they dont really need to narrate or have a protagonist that speaks, leaving us to interpret and figure shit out on our own. But I’m down to watch it regardless. That game kicked off my obsession with these games
When that series come is when we get the 60fps patch for PS5.
I don’t have much hope for Ava DuVernay’s directing, but I’ll watch it anyway.
I agree, the acting may not be as good. But, PLEASE, FOLLOW THE GAME PLOT. I don’t know how well it will be received, but even still, follow the game plot. No need for extras right now. Also, whoever plays the hunter, does NOT, NEED TO TALK. Just like the game. Or very few words at best. And, last but not least, if there is to be anything extra, how about, if there is a Bloodborne 2 in, or to be in the making, when it ends, hint towards a second game. Then, let that be, unlike something we’ve never seen before, the promotion for the second game. Just something to think about. 😁😁
Follow the game plot for the show? No, that would be awful. Cinema and games are two completly different art forms. You can’t directly translate the game plot into TV show’s plot. I am pretty sure they know better than us how to do stuff. I just hope they find people who really love Bloodborne as much as I do – and these people will make this show.
If they don’t use the lore in the show it would be awful the best part about bloodborne is the lore so I think they should make it not just about the fights they should make it about the old hunters and the events leading up to the beginning of the game and I think Ludwig should be the main character
.. and what “game plot” you are talking about? The game doesn’t have plot suitable for a series. The game doesn’t have main character, just silent protagonist, doesn’t dialogs. You don’t want a 8 episodes with 10 lines of dialogs. The TV series must be TV series. It must have characters with their arcs, it must have dialogs and many many other things that are not in the game. Translate game into series is difficult. And the worst thing you can do is just copypaste. But of course fans are always “no don’t touch anything! Keep everything as it was in book/game”. That is very bad idea.
No, don’t give us hope. It can’t be true. Just too good to be true
If there is a BloodBorne series, don’t have it follow the player. Have the series look into the past not the present. Give the story about what and who caused the Beastly Scourge
Uhhhhh, that was all told in the Chalice Dungeons….
You mention the movie Dread… I wonder if you mean Dredd? Dredd and The Raid are remarkably similar, and feel like a solid analog to the progression experience in Soulsborne games.
Dear oh dear, what was it, the money, the exposure, or the lack of knowledge on how these things turn out? Oh, it doesn’t matter. it always comes down to film youtubers to clean up these sorts of messes. (adapting bloodborne as an action series is not that bad of an idea, but the “boss at the end of every episode “is just a horrible idea. could be better if it was like a lovecraftian horror series with a aprinkle of action or like the game where the the things get weirder as you collect more insight so it might start as a normal action series with a sprinkle of horror and end up with a mix of lovecraftian horror mixed in with action.)
