DC has found their new Green Lantern. (And no, it won’t be Ryan Reynolds this time.) Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story) will star as Guy Gardner in the upcoming HBO Max series Green Lantern.

The TV show will reinvent the DC Comics property through a story stretching across space and time. HBO Max’s Green Lantern begins on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott. In 1984, the mantle is picked up by cocky alpha male Guy Gardner (Wittrock) and half-alien Bree Jarta. The series will showcase a multitude of Lanterns, from comic book favs to new heroes.

Wittrock’s Guy Gardner incarnation of the Green Lantern is described as “a hulking mass of masculinity” and “an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism” who somehow remains likeable. The Guy Garner version of the hero previously headlined the 1997 CBS Justice League of America pilot. Matthew Settle played the role then.

DC TV vets Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim write the scripts with Seth Grahame-Smith. The trio also executive produce alongside Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, David Katzenberg, Elizabeth Hunter, and Sara Saedi.

Wittrock previously earned two Emmy nominations for AHS: Freak Show and Versace: American Crime Story.
