If you were holding out hope that the Duke of Hastings would stick around for season 2, we have some bad news.
Or rather, Lady Whistledown does. In true Bridgerton fashion, the series released the news that actor Regé-Jean Page would not return for the second season via Whistledown letter.
“While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear,” reads the letter from Lady Whistledown.
Page was only contracted for the first season of the series. (Since the premiere season was based on the book The Duke and I.) Subsequent novels and seasons of the Netflix series focus on other characters.
The upcoming second season of Bridgerton will follow elder Bridgerton sibling Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) in his pursuit of a suitable marriage. Season 2 draws from Julia Quinn’s second novel in the series, The Viscount Who Loved Me. Actor Simone Ashley will portray Anthony’s love interest Kate Sharma.
As a Bridgerton, Phoebe Dynevor’s Daphne will continue to play a role in the series.
So, are you disappointed at the confirmation Page won’t appear in season 2? Or more excited to see what’s in store for Anthony and Kate? Leave your Bridgerton opinions in the comments.
Until then, we eagerly await the missive from Lady Whistledown announcing the season 2 premiere.
