Oscar-nominated director Emerald Fennell has been tapped to write DC’s Zatanna.

The upcoming adaptation will mark the character’s first appearance in the DCEU films. In the comics, Zatanna is one of the most powerful sorcerers in the DC universe. She’s also known for her involvement with the Justice League. (Though you won’t catch her in the Snyder Cut.)

Fennell received a ton of awards buzz recently for her film Promising Young Woman, which earned 5 Oscar noms, as well as recognition by the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, DGA, and WGA. She previously served as showrunner on season 2 of Killing Eve. Fennell also acts, recently appearing in The Crown as Camilla Bowles.

After Wonder Woman, DC’s Zatanna film will be only the second female hero to headline a DCEU film. Right now, the role of Zatanna has yet to be cast. While the character hasn’t appeared in a DC film before, she did pop up in the live action series Smallville. In the Superman series, Serinda Swan played Zatanna.

The movie comes from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions.

So, are you excited to see Fennell bring Zatanna to the big screen? Let us know in the comments. (And drop your Zatanna fan casts there too!)
