The high-fashion globetrotting cat-and-mouse thriller Killing Eve will end with its upcoming fourth season.

AMC announced the news today. (Try not to have a breakdown in Amsterdam over it.)

Killing Eve exploded in popular culture and attracted a dedicated and committed fan base from its very first episode. Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brilliant adaptation of the source material, the unforgettable characters given life by Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, and the entire cast, along with our partners at Sid Gentle Films, have delivered a one-of-a-kind roller-coaster ride that has taken our breath away,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks. “We could not be more thankful for the extraordinary talents and efforts of everyone involved, particularly Sandra and Jodie, who made Killing Eve much more than a television show. We look forward to what is sure to be an unforgettable final season and to exploring potential extensions of this compelling universe.”

Yes, you read that right. Though Killing Eve will end after four seasons, AMC is looking to explore possible spinoffs within the universe.

No word yet on what those spinoffs might be, but I’m guessing they won’t involve Eve or Villanelle. I’d put money on a prequel series about the rise of the Twelve. Or maybe even a sequel series following Irina rising up to take Villanelle’s place as the Twelve’s new golden girl.

Me finding out Killing Eve is ending

Stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer both weighed in on the final season announcement.

Killing Eve has been one of my greatest experiences and I look forward to diving back into Eve’s remarkable mind soon,” said Oh. “I’m so grateful for all the cast and crew who have brought our story to life and to the fans who have joined us and will be back for our exciting and unpredictable fourth and final season.”

Killing Eve has been the most extraordinary journey and one that I will be forever grateful for,” said Comer. “Thank you to all the fans who’ve supported us throughout and come along for the ride. Although all good things come to an end, it’s not over yet. We aim to make this one to remember!”

Laura Neal (Sex Education, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) continues the Killing Eve tradition of placing a new lead writer/showrunner for each season. She follows Waller-Bridge, Emerald Fennell, and Suzanne Heathcote.

Production on the 8-episode season four is set to begin early this summer. The final season should debut in 2022.

Thoughts on Killing Eve?

So, what do you think about the news Killing Eve is ending? I’m obsessed with this show, so part of me is sad to see it go. But I also think it gives the series the chance to end strong, instead of dragging it out past its prime.

I’ve got mixed feelings about potential spinoffs. I just can’t imagine anyone holding a candle to the Eve/Villanelle dynamic. (But at the same time, if they give Irina a murdery spinoff….well, I’d totally try it.)

What Killing Eve spinoff would you watch (if any)? Let me know in the comments.

Meanwhile, check back to THS for more updates.
