Space Jam: A New Legacy is highly anticipated for a variety of reasons. One, it’s a sequel to a beloved half sports/half cartoon film from the 90’s. The first film was made at the height of Michael Jordan’s powers. It cemented his legacy among fans and children alike as a superstar of Basketball and Pop Culture. LeBron James is chasing Michael Jordan for that title of greatest basketball player of all-time. Making a sequel to Space Jam won’t cement him as the best of all-time, but it will help his awareness in the Pop Culture field. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have plenty of new images to show you from the upcoming film.
James puts on the Tune Squad jersey in the upcoming film and joins the rest of the Looney Tunes against the Goon Squad. It stars LeBron James, Cedric Joe, Don Cheadle, Sonequa Martin-Green, and is directed by Malcolm D. Lee.
James and his son Dom are pulled into the Warner 3000 entertainment “Server-Verse” by Cheadle’s character, Al G Rhythm. The rogue AI builds a new team of baddies for the Looney Tunes and James to take on in the film. All your favorites are back: Bugs, Lola, Porky, Daffy, and Tweety Bird.
You can check out Space Jam: A New Legacy when it releases in theaters and on HBO Max on July 16th. Let’s hope it at least rivals the greatness of the original Space Jam.
