The Netflix Original, Tribes of Europa brings us a young adult, Dystopian Future with some sci-fi, and a splash of Game of Thrones. Philip Koch (Tatort) wrote and directed the series. It’s story goes like this, three siblings, Liv (Henriette Confurius), Kiano (Emilio Sakraya), and Elja (David Ali Rashed), who change the fate of the fallen Europe after coming in contact with a mysterious cube.

The Basics Of Tribes Of Europa

Tribes of Europa takes place in 2074 Europe after the fall of technology creating a world wide post-apocalyptic landscape known as Black December – I’d hate to camp out all night at Best Buy for that. The fall causes the land to be split into tribes. The violent Crowes, the advanced Atlanteans, the militaristic Crimsons, and the peaceful Origins which our trio of siblings belong to. However, this split into faction creates continuous war with one another for dominance. This reminds me of The Warriors a bit. Origines, come out and play-yay!

Throughout the series, all of the Tribes all struggle to get the cube Mcguffin with our three siblings caught in the middle eventually separating them allowing them to follow their own plotlines…Then there’s that one sex scene…yikes. That’s all I’m gonna say about that.

I really thought the production design was awesome. The series had a bleak and gritty feel that I was into. However, Tribes of Europa took a while to pick up. Getting past those first few episodes with it’s slow, young adult vibe was a bit of a chore for me, but by the time the season finale rolled around it had enough traction for me to be invested – just a bit though.

All that being said, I think this series has some potential, but it just wasn’t for me.
