*WARNING* This Review Contains Spoilers For WandaVision Episode 4
Vision and Wanda wouldn’t want you to be sad, so watch episode four before you read it!
So you wanted some action everyone. While it wasn’t long on the normal Marvel action, we got some much needed backstory and explanation. The last couple episodes had menace and intrigue bubbling under the surface, this one let it all out. It’s Wanda. It’s all Wanda. Monica Rambeau got her backstory fully fleshed out down to the time where she was affected by the “blip”. The backlash and aftermath of Thanos’s actions from the Infinity War and Endgame films can be felt throughout this episode.
We got plenty of looks at other side characters like Jimmy Woo and (now Doctor) Darcy Lewis. It turns out these two in addition to Monica are more relevant to the overall story than once thought. It was Jimmy who’s voice we heard on the radio in episode two and Darcy was the one that found out all about everything going on with Westview. This series continues to surprise with the quality and just the sheer weight to everything.
After a certain point, you’d think the sitcom cover would wear thin. With everything going on in the background that we know because of this episode including one of the most terrifying reveals in Marvel, it’s sinister as hell. Where exactly are we headed though? That’s a great question, we still don’t have a lot of answers to our big questions. As Monica says at the end of the episode, “it’s Wanda, it’s all Wanda”. That should clue us into who’s in charge here.
How Did These People Get Into Westview?
If Wanda is the one creating this whole charade, then what are the motives, besides to run away from reality. Wanda is one of the more tortured characters in the current MCU. Her brother was killed by Ultron. Vision was killed by Thanos. So, this is all a giant defense mechanism against facing reality? That sure makes a lot more sense currently than some of the other theories that people have been floating around.
Going into the show, the thought was that someone had to be controlling Wanda. That still could be true, but for right now, and especially seeing the end of this episode, Wanda is the villain here. It all leaves me wanting more. This current episodic release format builds the intrigue in ways that The Mandalorian could not. By the time we got to the second season of that show, every episode was worth the wait, but it wasn’t excruciating like it is with WandaVision.
Thoughts are flying around in people’s heads as to what could happen next. It’s all part of the greater Marvel plan. If the rest of the next phase of Marvel is like this, we’re all in for some late nights and great content. Episode four of WandaVision ramped up the intrigue to the max, even further past what the previous bar was, and it left us with more questions. But not in a way that feels cheap. I honestly want to know what comes next.
There’s Also The Horrifying Vision Image In The Room
I didn’t think that Marvel was going to go here. Originally when I saw Infinity War, I was expecting Vision’s death to be pretty graphic. Thankfully, we didn’t get full on gore with Thanos ripping the Mind Stone from his head. Instead, we got a relatively tame scene, that was well-worth it for this reveal. Even Wanda can’t control her machinations enough to wipe away the sight of Vision’s husk long enough. This was a jarring moment watching it live and it made the episode that much better. Her mental state is so far gone, that even seeing this didn’t snap her back into reality.
So the big question is, then what will?
We’ll have to find out next week, but if this week’s episode was any indication, it’ll be fantastic storytelling and mystery.

Spot on. I couldn’t agree more with every sentiment. As soon as I realised I was watching the “un-blippening”, I was figuratively on the edge of my seat.
This episodic approach they’re taking definitely gives the story space to breath and ratchets up the tension masterfully.
If this is what they’re able to do inside of four episodes, I’m looking forward to the rest, and definitely even more hopeful for the future Disney+ offerings for the MCU.
one of the most original and intriguing series for years…
Im glad that as a non-marvel fan I’m still able to follow along (with a little bit of research). The quality is definitely there.
