Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have gone to great strides to keep The Mandalorian original while still grounded in the universe we’ve come to cherish. Through it’s amazing effects, haunting soundtrack, and amazing characters, the show truly is groundbreaking. Likewise, reintroducing Boba Fett, and bringing Ahoska Tano into live-action, make it very much Star Wars. But there’s one tie-in element we’ve not yet seen. No one has spoken a classic Star Wars line in the live-action series to date.
Granted, the show is already entrenched in Star Wars lore for its new classic lines “This is the way” and “I have spoken.” And yes, there was some joking discussion about having Din Djarin say “maclunkey.” We’ve even gotten a couple instances of “may the Force be with you.” Nevertheless, no one has yet said the classic Star Wars line aloud in the series. There have only been two instances previously when the line hasn’t appeared in franchise dialogue. Will The Mandalorian be the third?
Classic Star Wars line yet to be spoken in The Mandalorian
Someone has, over the course of forty-plus years, said “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” or a close derivative in nearly every single, live-action Star wars production there is. The line even appears in Rogue One, though Cassian Andor shushed K-2SO before he could finish it. There have been only two instances, though, where we did not hear the classic Star Wars line on screen. The first was in Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi. (Sorry, having BB-8 beep it out unintelligibly doesn’t count.) In Solo: A Star Wars Story, however, Han declares he has a “good” feeling about their Kessel Run escape with comic irony. Enter The Mandalorian.
There have been plenty of opportunities to have Din Djarin, Cara Dune, or others repeated the classic Star Wars line in The Mandalorian. Yet, here we are, through two seasons…. Would you prefer it remain a hallmark of the live-action films only? Or do you think we’ll hear the phrase in Season 3?
Sadly, we have to wait a whole year to find out.
