Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have been nothing if not genius in their presentation of The Mandalorian. The new, original characters are already solidified in Star Wars lore. Even the call-backs to characters from the past, though certainly fan service, don’t feel forced by any means. It’s the storytelling, however, that is truly setting The Mandalorian apart from the other Disney Star Wars products (the lone exception perhaps being Rogue One.) For these two, it’s all in the details…. And there’s one, small detail in Chapter 14, “The Tragedy,” we may have missed. “The Jedi” was the title of Chapter 13, but we may have seen that Jedi in Chapter 14.
As we know, Din Djarin takes Grogu to the ancient Jedi world of Tython on Ahoska Tano’s instruction. There, at the ruins of an old temple, Grogu can commune with the Force and reach out to any remaining Jedi. He does just that, with a pillar of Force energy surrounding him in the process. His ward in a trance and unreachable, Mando must venture down the hill to ensure Grogu’s safety. We never get *official* word that Grogu makes contact, but a new theory suggests that he did, and we already saw it.
Did a Jedi already appear to Grogu?
Esquire shared an interesting theory that says a Jedi did already communicate with Grogu. As proof, they offer a still from the chapter that appears to show another figure standing next to the seeing stone. The scene occurs momentarily as Mando makes his way to his eventual encounter with Boba Fett. Take a look for yourself:

Their theory is that the alleged figure is Luke Skywalker, astral-projecting as he did in The Last Jedi. Granted, Luke does seem to be the odds-on choice for the Jedi to make contact with Grogu. Even those of us here at That Hashtag Show have posited the same idea. But… That just seems too obvious. Favreau and Filoni have been masterful with their integration of past Star Wars lore into the new series. Having Luke be the Jedi to find Grogu just seems too Kool-Aid Man bursting through the wall in comparison to their generally subtle approach thus far. I guess we’ll see. There are two chapters left in The Mandalorian, Season 2, with Chapter 16 airing tomorrow.
