Many stories have been breaking recently about Marvel acquiring the rights back from Netflix for the various Defenders characters. Now it appears that Marvel comics want to put these characters to use. Announced today was a new ongoing book for the character Danny Rand. Aka: Iron Fist.
Titled Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon. The book will be a six-issue mini-series that follows Danny as he investigates a series of murders. The twist of the book however is that the murders involve the ancient dragons of the Heavenly City. The full synopsis can be read below.
“Someone is killing the ancient dragons that power the Heavenly Cities, and only Iron Fist and the Deadly Weapons can stop them… if they can discover who they are in time! Zombie armies, mystical portals, dragon hearts, some of the Marvel Universe’s deadliest fighters all converge in one action-packed extravaganza, and the fate of all worlds hangs in the balance! Larry Hama and David Wachter are building a story that hits as hard as the Iron Fist itself!”
Offical synopis from Marvel Comics
Larry Hama is writing the book. David Wachter is doing the art. Hama is a veteran writer. He’s well versed in writing martial arts comics. Having written for Marvel’s Wolverine and IDW’s G.I. Joe comic. Wachter is known for his work on IDW’s TMNT comic. Billy Tan did the covers.
New Direction for Iron Fist
One problem that has often plagued the character of Iron Fist is what to do with him. Having bounced between CEO, broke street hero, Hero for Hire, and Avenger. There has never really been a clear idea of where Danny fits in the Marvel universe. Focusing Danny on street crimes that involve magical elements feels like a perfect fit for the character.
Right now the book is only a six-issue mini-series. Hopefully, if the book does well it will lead to a new ongoing Iron Fist series.
