Boom! Studios’ graphic novel series The Empty Man hits the big screen as a feature film next week.
The supernatural horror flick has an “urban legend” vibe. Check out the trailer below to see what the Empty Man has in store for you.
According to the synopsis from 20th Century Studios, the movie tells the story of a town urban legend known as the Empty Man. After a group of teens begin to mysteriously disappear, the locals believe it is the work of the Empty Man. As a retired cop investigates and struggles to make sense of the stories, he discovers a secretive group and their attempts to summon a horrific, mystical entity. Soon his life—and the lives of those close to him—are in grave danger.
I love an urban legend based horror story. But I’ll admit this one seems a little niche for me. The real draw of urban legend horror is how accessible it is – these horrors are widespread enough to possibly affect anyone (either worldwide or within a specific community). Is a bottle on a bridge that universal an experience? (Maybe I just don’t spend enough time on bridges to know.) All I’m saying is the Empty Man doesn’t seem to have the same pervasive potential as say, Bloody Mary.
But hey, that doesn’t mean it can’t be scary, right?
