After a lukewarm finale to the series, it’s been decided that Dexter needs more. Showtime is ordering a ten episode, pseudo-ninth season of the show. Michael C. Hall is back as the famous TV serial killer. Executive producer Clyde Phillips is back as showrunner. The show is going into production this winter for a Fall 2021 release.
Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” said Showtime president Gary Levine in a statement. “We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!
The show ended with Dexter’s whereabouts unknown. So we don’t know if the show is going to resume with that finale as the canon or not. We’ll have to find out when we get more details on the show. But for now, this is incredibly exciting news for fans of the show.
