If you’re going to bury the truth, make sure it stays buried. Amazon’s digging up dark secrets with a new I Know What You Did Last Summer series.
The YA horror series will follow the same premise as the 1997 movie. In a town full of secrets, a group of teenagers are stalked by a mysterious killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night. (Both the film and the upcoming series draw from Lois Duncan’s novel of the same name.)
I Know What You Did Last Summer will be written by Sara Goodman (Preacher).
Amazon Studios’ Co-Head of Television Albert Cheng discussed the upcoming project.
“The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie,” said Cheng. “Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan favorite film.”
James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) previously signed on to produce the series. However, at this time he is not set to direct.
The series is a joint project with Sony Pictures TV, which produced the film.
“We are thrilled to have I Know What You Did Last Summer with our incredible partners at Amazon Studios,” said Jason Clodfelter, Co-President of Sony. “Neal Moritz and Original Film’s development consistently fires on all cylinders and that is proven once again with Sara Goodman’s contemporary and pulsating character weaving suspense thriller.”
I Know What You Did Last Summer doesn’t have a cast yet. The 1997 movie starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr.
