She-Ra creator and showrunner Noelle Stevenson just lined up her next project. She will adapt Lumberjanes for HBO Max.
Lumberjanes is a series of Eisner Award-winning graphic novels from Boom! Studios. Here’s the series description from the comics studio.
Lumberjanes follow five friends– April, Jo, Mal, Molly, and Ripley—during their first summer at Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thilstle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types. These new cabinmates soon discover that there’s more to this camp than earning badges, and that their camp director is harboring a secret that is the key to answering a mystery as old as the camp itself. Throughout their summer these hardcore lady types will have to overcome obstacles involving supernatural creatures and cabin rivalries, proving that some campfire stories are real and also learning the true meaning of friendship.
Stevenson actually co-created the graphic novels with Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, and Brooklyn Allen. To date, the series includes over 70 issues and 13 graphic novels. Over 1.5 million copies have sold worldwide. In addition to multiple Eisner awards, the series won the GLAAD award for Outstanding Comic Book.
After a competitive bidding war, HBO Max won the adaptation project. The streamer gave the show a script-to-series order. Lumberjanes plans to launch with an hour-long special, written and directed by Stevenson.
Stevenson recently finished her run as creator and showrunner of the popular Netflix animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. The Dreamworks Animation project earned Stevenson an Emmy award, as well as multiple GLAAD award nominations.
Print copies of Lumberjanes can be found at your local comic shop and online from Boom! Studios.
