They “were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Dr. Ian Malcolm first uttered those ominous words in Jurassic Park almost 30 years ago. That quote instantly became one of the most iconic in cinema. To this day it remains applicable for many, real-life situations we face. The latest situation in which we can use it circles right back to the actor who spoke those words in the first place. There’s a possibility Jeff Goldblum could appear in Star Wars …. But should he?

The talented actor appearing in a Star Wars feature isn’t as far-fetched as it might seem at first. Remember: Jeff Goldblum portrayed the delightfully quirky and evil Grandmaster in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Taika Waititi directed Ragnarok, making it one of the most love films of the MCU. Waititi, of course, also portrayed IG-11 in The Mandalorian and directed the show’s epic, first season finale. Goldblum discussed the possibility of appearing in Star Wars in a recent interview.

The Fly actor spoke on a number of topics with Insider, including his relationship with Taika Waititi and the possibility of appearing in The Mandalorian. That likely won’t happen, as Waititi’s character exploded in Season 1 and he’s not directing any episodes of Season 2. However, a Jeff Goldblum and Taika Waititi Star Wars collaboration isn’t out of the picture. Waititi is, as we know, directing the next Star Wars feature film.  Goldblum himself coyly hinted of his possible involvement in the project:

I’m a fan, of course, of Taika Waititi. I adore him, always did before I even worked with him, and maybe we’ll do something again together. We’ve talked about doing something else that has to be secret right now but I would do anything with him, sure.”

Jeff Goldblum is an incredibly talented actor, undoubtedly. But is his quirky nature right for Star Wars? Don’t be too quick to answer that. Remember, people asked the same thing about Waititi. His performance as IG-11, and his direction of The Mandalorian’s season finale, proved the answer of that query to be an emphatic “yes.”

To quote Goldblum’s character New Jersey in Bucakaroo Bonzai: ” Whatya mean, you serious, do you have an opening?”
