Candyman is lining up to be quite the picture later this year. That film’s director Nia DaCosta is being tapped to helm Captain Marvel 2. According to Deadline, DaCosta takes over for Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who directed the first film. Captain Marvel was a massive success that continued the box office domination for Marvel and Disney.
The film was needlessly panned by anti-social justice idiots on the internet because they’re inadequate personally, and they hate that a woman, Brie Larson’s character, Carol Danvers was incredibly powerful.
The film contained great performances from Ben Mendelsohn, Sam Jackson, Jude Law, and Annette Bening. It set up the use of CGI technology that we haven’t seen on film where Sam Jackson and other characters were de-aged for the whole film. It grossed $1.13 billion in it’s theatrical run.
Why Nia DaCosta Is The Right Choice
Megan McDonnell who wrote some episodes of WandaVision, wrote the script. Marvel has been making critical choices in regards to diversity with it’s films as of late. They want more viewpoints from more people. DaCosta is the latest in this line of thinking. It should likely be the largest budget film directed by an African-American woman ever.
Candyman releases later this year and it’s trailer was one of the highest viewed on social media on the year. Nia DaCosta should be fantastic in the role. Following this news, it should be interesting to see where Marvel goes next with it’s directors. The studio has multiple films upcoming with films like Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness and their Disney+ shows. All plans are currently on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic however.
