A game called Waifu Uncovered has been removed from sale from the Nintendo Switch eShop in Japan for NSFW content. But really, the title should’ve clued you in on the content long before you even read its description.

A Recipe for Ecchi

Waifu Uncovered is a simple shoot-em-up game that is also very much NSFW. In fact, the description on Nintendo’s store page for this game reads: “Eight beautiful maidens are under threat of alien attack. Their lives and the fate of the world now rest in your hands. In this simple yet rewarding shoot’em up, take command of multiple ship types, each balanced for a different play style, and blast away clothing that’s been deeply infected by a deadly virus. Evade and destroy enemies as they feverishly work against you, team up in multiplayer or bravely battle alone, save the girl of your dreams and perhaps even unlock a convenient one-finger mode.”. Yep, it perfectly sums up the game’s plot. At least, what little of it there is. One-Hand-Free Studios made this game, and well, you can see where this is going, can’t you.

To be fair, neither the game nor the developers make any attempt to hide the fact that Waifu Uncovered is a decidedly NFSW game for adults. What is surprising though is that it managed to end up on sale in the Nintendo Switch eShop. You know, where kids frequent since there’s a whole bunch of all ages games sold alongside Waifu Uncovered. Although if you know what the Nintendo Switch eShop actually does, it’s not actually all that surprising.

AKA: Nintendo Steam

The Nintendo Switch eShop is an open e-games store, similar to Steam. And just like Steam, the Switch eShop appears to contain little to no filters. There is an age verification system, but it can be easily bypassed by any kid with half a brain. So theoretically, any kid who just lies about their age could just buy Waifu Uncovered and play it in all of its NSFW glory.

Now, to be fair again, the publisher of Waifu Uncovered, eastasiasoft, is apparently working on a fix that censors select scenes in the game. This would theoretically make the game tolerably SFW enough for the Switch eShop. Maybe just barely tolerable, but theoretically it should meet most everyone’s standards for SFW. Hopefully, that will fix the problem for now.

Now if only the Switch eShop will actually install better filters for their content. Although, to be fair, Waifu Uncovered was removed in the Japan section of the Switch eShop, and it’s likely that other regions will follow. The filters might’ve took time to catch up, but they really should’ve screened this out beforehand.

Conclusion

Wow, the Nintendo Switch eShop has really bad filters. I mean, it’s not the game’s fault that the Switch eShop allows such decidedly NSFW content to be sold on it. Waifu Uncovered makes zero attempts to hide its NSFW nature. Do you blame the content for being clearly marketed towards adults, or do you blame the store for putting it in the “All Ages” section?

Well, that’s my take on this. Now let’s see how many people I offend with this, shall we?
