Netflix

Netflix has been on fire recently. While other companies are trying to wade through the pandemic and it’s problems, they’re spending big. That spending has reached an apex, for the moment. Deadline is reporting that Netflix and the Russo’s have reached a deal for the film. The Gray Man is going to be their most expensive feature to date.

That cost isn’t without star power though. It’s based on a best-selling book series by Mark Greaney. Attached to direct and write are Joe and Anthony Russo. The script was polished by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Those two are important because they either wrote or co-wrote the Captain America and later Avengers films.

Already attached to star in the film are Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. So it’s almost a full Marvel reunion at this point. The plot is about a duel between two former CIA agents and friends, Court Gentry (Gosling) and Lloyd Hansen (Evans). The book series goes on for multiple entries, so the expectation with the movie is a franchise.

Anthony Russo had this to say about it:

The movie is a real mano a mano between those two great actors who represent two different versions of the CIA, in what it can be, and what it can do. For those who were fans of Captain America: Winter Soldier, this is us moving into that territory in more of a real-world setting. That’s what this movie really means for us.

Anthony Russo to Deadline

It looks like Netflix is banking hard on the theatrical success of the Russo Brothers. They’ve already put in a lot of money for Extraction and a sequel, so this is more faith in the directing duo.
