The Mad Men star, Jon Hamm will star and produce the reboot of Chevy Chase’s 1985 comedy thriller, Fletch.
Greg Mottola will direct the 80’s comedy reboot who has also directed such cult comedy classics like Superbad and Adventureland. Miramax is producing the Fletch reboot.
Who is Fletch?
Based on the series of Gregory Mcdonald mystery novels, Fletch follows an investigative reporter solving mysteries and getting into crazy antics along the way. The 1985 comedy starring Chevy Chase tip-toes the genre of neo-noir as Fletch uses his wit, numerous aliases, and charm to wiggle out of sticky situations and write the story of a lifetime.
Jon Hamm will produce the movie alongside Connie Tavel. Greg Mottola will direct the 1985 reboot with an impressive list of comedy classics under his belt. Zev Borow is writing the screenplay and David List is executive producer for the film.
Talks about a Fletch comeback have been in the works for a while with studios like Warner Bros. and Relativity Studios attempting to lift it off the ground. But Miramax has taken the leap to make a Fletch return a reality.
A Comedy for a New Generation
Miramax CEO, Bill Block said, “Fletch’s duration over audiences – whether told on paper or the big screen – entertains all and we could not be more thrilled to see what twenty-first century twist these artists create.”
The Jon Hamm adaptation will be based on Mcdonald’s second book in the Fletch series, Confess, Fletch. Hamm’s revival of the Chevy Chase character will encounter multiple murders, in which he is the prime suspect. In an attempt to prove his innocence, Fletch must retrieve a collection of stolen art pieces. This inheritance of art was for his fiancée from her presumed to be dead father.
From it what sounds like, this Fletch reboot starring Jon Hamm sounds like a silly time and I’m all aboard the Hamm Tram.
