Dead-end theme park jobs, a haunted mansion, a demon spirit guide, and a magical talking dog all come together in DeadEndia.

Netflix has ordered the 2-D animated horror-comedy to series, set to launch on the platform in 2021. DeadEndia follows Barney, Norma, and talking dog Pugsley as they try to face a barrage of supernatural forces – all while working their summer jobs.

The series will be based on Hamish Steele’s award-winning graphic novels of the same name. Steele’s work has been praised for both its art style and its storylines, which are LGBTQ inclusive and deal with the difficulty of adolescence.

“DeadEndia is about terrifying demons, vengeful ghosts, and mysterious magic. It is also about coming of age in a world that wasn’t made for you. It’s a drama about found family, identity, and making mistakes. And of course, it’s a laugh-out-loud comedy!” Steele said.

Zach Barack will voice Barney, a trans teen. Barack previously became the first trans actor to appear in a Marvel film. Though it was only a background appearance in Spiderman: Far From Home. The other main cast includes Kody Kavitha (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Norma. And also Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice: The Musical) as Pugsley.
