Lazarus is all set to be another jaw-droppingly gorgeous and action-packed anime series by creator and director Shinichirō Watanabe. Who is he, you might ask? Well, he is just the man responsible for such anime classics such as Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop, and Samurai Champloo. Older readers might be familiar with those anime series from watching them in their childhoods. Heck, even if you’re a younger reader, then you might be familiar with Space Dandy, Terror in Resonance, and Carole & Tuesday. Those too are Watanabe’s masterpieces, and even watching a single one of them will tell you just why he’s so famous.
Thus, you can explain just why it is that everyone is so excited about the upcoming Lazarus. Even moreso when the person responsible for the action choreography is Chad Stahelski. He’s not normally known for anime, mind you. Instead, fans of the John Wick films will readily recognize his name as the director. In fact, fans of The Matrix will recognize him as the stunt double for Keanu Reeves himself, which makes their later partnership in John Wick all the more hilarious.
It’s Stahelski’s partnership with Watanabe for Lazarus (along with animation from MAPPA and production from Sola Entertainment) that’s what making it look so amazing, even just in the initial trailer. Don’t believe me? Then why not watch that trailer yourself on YouTube, and see for yourself if this is an anime you want to watch for yourself when it comes out on Adult Swim and HBO Max?
Lazarus Drops Official Trailer, Soon to Premiere on Adult Swim and Max
As you can see from that official trailer, Lazarus looks amazing. It really does feel like a fusion of Cowboy Bebop and John Wick, both in story and in style. If you’re a fan of stylish action films, then this is the anime for you when it makes its streaming debut on April 5, 2025 on Adult Swim. If you don’t have access to Adult Swim, then don’t worry. The anime will stream on Max the next day on April 6, 2025.
What do you all think? Does Lazarus look like the right anime for you? Does the mix of Shinichirō Watanabe and Chad Stahelski look amazing to you? If you have anything to say about this, leave a message below in the comments section.
