DC Studios is officially developing three new animated series, and Starfire is getting her own origin series.

James Gunn and Peter Safran recently revealed that Warner Bros. Animation was developing an animated series based on Starfire. It’s unclear if this film will be tied to the DC Universe or an Elseworlds story.

The DC Studio bosses also announced animated shows: My Adventures with Green Lantern, and DC Super Powers.

In a recent DC press event, Safran explained that the studio is aiming to release two live-action films and one animated film per year, as well as two live-action and two animated TV series a year.

About DC Studio’s Starfire

DC Studios recently confirmed this new “younger-skewing” animated series would tell the origin story of Teen Titans hero Starfire after she uses an “ancient spaceship” found on her home planet of Tamaran.

Starfire will use this spaceship to escape her planet and explore the universe. On her journey, she meets “the magical Princess Amethyst of Gemworld”, and together, they will “uncover the deepest reaches of the DC universe.” Josie Campbell is executive producing, while Brianne Drouhard is a co-executive producer.

Starfire has appeared numerous times in DC animated shows, including in 2003’s Teen Titans and in live-action in 2018’s Titans, played by Anna Diop.

Thoughts on The Starfire Animated Show

It looks like Starfire will be making her debut in the DC Universe sooner rather than later. With the prospect of a live-action Teen Titans film on the way, it seems likely that Starfire will make her debut there. Some fans are even theorizing that Starfire’s origin story could be a way to lead into a Teen Titans movie.

James Gunn and Peter Safran clearly see the demand for the hero if she gets her own animated series. Perhaps Starfire will be getting her own solo movie in the DC Universe in the future. Let’s just hope that this animated version of Starfire is closer to the comic books than the watered-down versions previously portrayed on the small screen.
