Despite some box office competition from The Monkey, Captain America: Brave New World managed to stay at the top spot.
Captain America: Brave New World Almost Doesn’t Stick The Landing

According to Box Office Mojo, In its second weekend, Captain America: Brave New World retained the top spot at the box office with $28.2 million. However, the film experienced a significant 68% drop from its opening weekend, which is in line with my predictions. Signaling potential concerns about its staying power. While the MCU continues to draw audiences; mixed reviews could further impact its performance in the coming weeks. This analysis shows us how important the box office is in predicting the longevity of a film’s success.
The Monkey Swings Into Second
Debuting in second place, Osgood Perkins’ horror film The Monkey pulled in $14.2 million. With James Wan’s name attached as a producer, the film managed a decent start, though it remains to be seen whether strong word-of-mouth can push it higher in the coming weeks. Horror films often have solid legs if they resonate with audiences, so its second-week drop-off will be crucial for its box office trajectory.
The Rest Of The Box Office
In its third weekend, Paddington in Peru secured third place with $6.5 million. The beloved bear continues to charm audiences, and strong reviews could help it maintain momentum. With little competition in the family-friendly market, it has the potential for a steady box office run.
Dog Man, based on the popular children’s book series, slipped to fourth place with $5.9 million. The film has been a consistent performer among younger audiences, and with limited family-friendly options in theaters, it could continue to draw in crowds over the next few weeks, thus impacting the overall box office standings.
The Chinese animated sequel Ne Zha 2 maintained its fifth-place spot, earning $4.4 million domestically. While its North American numbers are modest, its real strength lies in its international appeal. Strong overseas performance could make it a major global success.
Next Week’s Predictions
The major new release next week is Last Breath.
The movie is targeting a $3 million to $7 million opening weekend. It’ll likely make $5 million and likely place fifth.
Aside from that, I expect the box office to more or less resemble the same as it does now.
As always we’ll find out next week.
