Imagine for a second you were in a band that was invited to open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. That’s the premise of New Years Rev, the new Green Day-inspired comedy movie from writer-director Lee Kirk. Well, it’s not exactly that simple, it’s actually about three friends who journey to Los Angeles under a false belief that their band is opening for Green Day. The movie is based on the early days of Green Day from living in a tour van.
Variety is reporting that the cast is adding McKenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee, and Sean Gunn. Here’s what Live Nation Productions describes the film as:
“rowdy and mischievous” road-trip comedy “filled with adventures,” plus a live performance from Green Day.
The cast already includes Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust as the band members alongside Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, and Keen Ruffalo.
Here’s what Lee Kirk had to say in a statement:
“Not only will ‘New Years Rev’ include wall to wall Green Day music and a concert at the Palladium in Hollywood, it’ll also feature some of the best and funniest actors working today. I can’t wait to show this film to the generations of Green Day fans around the world,”
Who Are These People Joining The Cast?
McKenna Grace is a rising star in Hollywood, starring in movies like the latest two Ghostbusters movies and she’s starring in the upcoming Scream 7. Fred Armisen is a Saturday Night Live veteran and co-creator of the series Portlandia. He’s a hilarious actor and voice-actor who’s been in shows like Wednesday and Big Mouth.
Bobby Lee is a stand-up comedian, actor, and podcast host, and one of the most successful in that sphere. He hosts Bad Friends and Tigerbelly. He also recently starred in Borderlands.
Finally, Sean Gunn is best known to fans of the Marve Universe for playing Kraglin in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. You can also hear his voice in DC Studios’ Creature Commandos as Weasel.
