Avatar: The Last Airbender is getting a brand-new animated series at Nickelodeon! Avatar: Seven Havens will bring back series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Nickelodeon Animation says that the new 2D animated show is set for 26 half-hour episodes. There will be two books in the traditional Avatar: The Last Airbender style. 

20 years ago, Avatar took the world by storm. Now, just in time for that anniversary, Avatar: Seven Havens looks to capitalize on the increasing popularity of the series. The last animated entry in the franchise was Avatar: The Legend of Korra. This show followstose events. But, there’s been a lot of time passed since Korra and her friends saved Republic City.

Nickelodeon describes the show: “Avatar: Seven Havens is set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

Avatar: The Last Airbender has been big business for Paramount. The show’s profile is even higher after the recent success of the live-action adaptation. Nick has to be ecstatic to get the series creators back in the fold for the new series. They’re happy to be back too.

“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” DiMartino and Konietzko said today. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”

Nickelodeon Animation president Ramsey Naito offered, “For two decades, the richly crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has introduced audiences to a world of compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally.”

The statement continued, “We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, with a new story set within the Avatarverse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”
