NEON wants to bring its latest horror flick to… your church?
The company announced plans today to offer screenings of Osgood Perkins’ The Monkey in churches across the United States, timed simultaneously with the feature’s theatrical release. Religious institutions can visit godsbowlingstrikestonight.com to request a screening at their location.
The website, a single page bearing a sunlit cross and a ‘90s web aesthetic, quotes Revelation 6:8 and offers up a link to apply for a church screening. The form itself offers up just three questions. The first open-response question reads, “In 100 words or less, tell us why your congregation should be blessed to witness the gift of The Monkey.” The second offers a dropdown selection for “Does your church believe that salvation is achieved through faith or film?” Finally, the third: “What is the greatest sin of all?” which allows only one response (“Using your phone in a movie theater”).

THS attended The Monkey premiere last night, which was held in a church in Los Angeles. So if you’re wondering what a church screening of a horror movie looks like, check out our premiere pics below.
At the film’s premiere, director Osgood Perkins also explained the expression used as the website’s URL. He was once told when many people die at once, “God’s bowling strikes tonight.”
The Monkey adapts a short story by Stephen King, and follows twin brothers who find a mysterious wind-up monkey before a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree, forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.
The film stars Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, Sarah Levy, and Elijah Wood.
The Monkey premieres in theaters February 21. And possibly, in your local church as well.
