Dungeons & Dragons is going from tabletop to TV screen (again). Deadline reports The Forgotten Realms, a live-action D&D series, is in development at Netflix.

The project comes from producer Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, Deadpool & Wolverine) and showrunner Drew Crevello (WeCrashed). Crevello wrote the pilot for the project, which originally received a straight-to-series order from eOne and Paramount back in 2023, with plans to premiere the show on Paramount+. However, following shifting strategies at Paramount and the ownership change of eOne, the series didn’t move forward.

Now The Forgotten Realms will launch with a new home: Netflix. The streamer has already found success in Dungeons & Dragons-adjacent properties with the hit series Stranger Things

Since splitting from Paramount, Crevello reworked the D&D series with a new concept. So, it will not have any relation to the recent Paramount feature film Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

The original fantasy tabletop role playing game has existed for over 50 years, but has had a huge resurgence in popularity in recent years. Dungeons & Dragons IP now encompasses hit podcasts, TV series, films, and even specialty food and beverages.

Outside of the confirmation that The Forgotten Realms will be a live-action series, we don’t have many details about the show just yet. So, stay tuned to THS for more updates.

Until then, let us know what you want to see in a new D&D TV show below.
