If you grew up a millennial, fan fiction and online storytelling in general is not new to you. Then, from the chatrooms, email lists, and messageboards came Wattpad. Wattpad is a social storytelling platform that allows users to write, read, and share various genres. The platform provides a space for amateur and professional writers to publish their work to help them reach a global audience. There are plenty of Wattpad films that turned into movies. For example, my favorite is the After series starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin. Now, we have My Fault: London coming to Prime Video. The film is a British adaptation of the successful Spanish film based on the novel.
The story follows Noah (Asha Banks), a teenage girl who is forcefully relocated from Florida to London with her mother. Why? Her mother has gotten remarried. Once there she meets her stepbrother Nick, played by The Buccaneers Matthew Broome. As we all know, there is a fine line between love and hate. For these two, nothing could be truer as we watch a strong attraction spark between them.
MY FAULT: LONDON is a surprisingly good time
Don’t get me wrong. I did not go into watching My Fault: London thinking I was going to hate it. I was, however, not expecting it to be as good as it is.
The story incorporates many of my favorite tropes, like enemies to lovers, the good girl falling for the bad boy, and the classic will-they-won’t-they dynamic. Surprisingly, the stepsibling aspect didn’t bother me at all; it’s certainly not on the level of Iris and Barry from The Flash. The chemistry between Asha Banks and Matthew Broome is off the charts. They gave me everything I wanted and more when it came to Wattpad smut. The script also does a great job of towing the line between absolutely ridiculous and relatable.
I also need to mention that the soundtrack is fire. Every song choice accentuated each scene perfectly. I also love seeing a girl be a badass racecar driver. You know, women thriving in male-dominated fields and all that.
Is My Fault: London for everyone? Absolutely not. But, if you enjoy a cheesy good time, make sure to check it out on Prime Video!
