Despite some solid competition, Dog Man maintained its dominance at the box office, securing the top spot once again.

Dog Man Stays on Top

Dog Man, the family-friendly animated film, pulled in another impressive $13.7 million over the weekend according to Box Office Mojo. Thanks to its built-in fanbase from Dav Pilkey’s beloved graphic novel series, families continue to flock to theaters. With little competition in the animated genre, the movie is holding steady and is expected to keep drawing audiences in the coming weeks.

Heart Eyes

Meanwhile, Heart Eyes, the weekend’s biggest new release, made a strong debut in second place with $8.5 million. Its eerie marketing campaign and unique horror concept captured the audience’s interest. However, its long-term success will depend on how well it holds up throughout the week. That being said, it was on the lower end of its tracking numbers and well below predicted numbers.

The Rest of the Box Office

Love Hurts secured third place with $5.8 million. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, the film is well-positioned for a boost in attendance. If positive word-of-mouth spreads, it could climb even higher in the rankings next weekend.

Meanwhile, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King continued its steady performance, bringing in another $3.9 million. Although the prequel’s momentum has slowed, nostalgia and Disney’s strong reputation are keeping it in the mix.

Rounding out the top five, the sci-fi thriller Companion added $3 million to its total. While its theatrical numbers aren’t particularly high, these kinds of films often gain traction through streaming and home-release sales. It will be interesting to see if it picks up momentum in the coming weeks.

Box Office Predictions: How Much Will Brave New World Make?

The two big releases next weekend are Captain America: Brave New World and Paddington In Peru.

There’s no question that Captain America: Brave New World will be number one next weekend. It’s targeting a $70 million to $85 million opening. While it is a Marvel movie, and hot off the heels of Deadpool & Wolverine I do think it’ll be on the lower end of it’s tracking. I think it’ll make closer to $72 million.

Paddington In Peru will almost assuredly come in second. It’s great counter-programming to Captain America: Brave New World. It’s targeting a $16 million to $25 million opening. It’ll likely land somewhere around $22 million.
