Netflix’s Forever just gave fans a look at the streamer’s new Judy Blume adaptation. Regina King directs the first episode of the series. Based on the 1975 novel, the story centers on first love. Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. star as Keisha and Justin. 

Two young people connect and fall in love in 2018 against the backdrop of Los Angeles. Keisha and Justin are young athletes that fall for each other. Forever also stars Wood Harris, Karen Pittman, Xosha Roquemore, Martin Lawrence, Barry Shabaka, Ali Gallo, Niles Fitch, Paigion Walker, E’myri Crutchfield.

Executive producer and showrunner Brock Akil said, “Judy Blume’s ability to capture the real emotions we experience during the various rites of passage of our youth influenced my life choices and writing voice. I’m honored to reimagine one of my favorite books, Forever.”

“Mara’s creative and authentic storytelling allows us to present a fresh take on an iconic coming-of-age love story,” Renate Radford, Netflix’s vice president of overall deals, said back in November 2022. “We look forward to bringing the series to a global audience.”

“Judy Blume’s groundbreaking 1975 novel, Forever, is being reimagined for a new generation by Mara Brock Akil. It’s an epic love story of two Black teens exploring romance and their identities through the awkward journey of being each other’s firsts, set in Los Angeles, 2018. Premiering on Netflix this year.”

TUDUM gives us a little extra information: “Simone will play Keisha Clark, a young confident, smart, and fiery track star with clear dreams for life after high school. Meanwhile, Cooper Jr. will portray Justin Edwards, a nerd at heart disguised in an athlete’s body. Justin dreams of playing D1 basketball and achieving more than his successful parents. Love will lead him to who he truly is.”
