“Lanterns” has found its DC supervillain, Sinestro, in Ulrich Thomsen. This would be a recurring role for the new HBO, WBTV, and DC Studios series, according to Deadline.

The upcoming “Lanterns” series is said to follow John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, and the most famous Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler. They are described as two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder.

Sinestro is arguably the most well-known Green Lantern villain. He is a former Green Lantern who turned rouge and is described as ruthless yet undeniably charming. Sinestro is also said to be obsessive about his former mentee, Hal Jordan. He was created by John Broome and Gil Kane and first appeared in DC Comics in “Green Lantern” Volume 2 #56 in 1961.

This will be Sinestro’s second live-action appearance, also being a part of the 2011 film, “Green Lantern”. There he was played by Mark Strong. The character is commonly featured in animated adaptations, comics, and even video games.

As for Thomsen, he is known for his role as Kai Proctor in the series “Banshee” for Cinemax. He was also recently in the critically acclaimed Scandinavian series, “Trom”. He also had a recurring role on “Blacklist”, “Counterpart”, and “The Young Pope”.

Other cast members for “Lanterns” include Kelly McDonald as Sheriff Kerry, Garret Dillahunt as modern cowboy William Macon, and Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, who is said could be a potential love interest for John. The series is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelöf, and Tom King. The first two episodes will be directed by James Hawes.
