Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be a rather unique entry in the DC Universe when we finally get to see it. It’s not hard to see why either. All you have to do is look at the title to see that it will be one of the few superhero films period to feature a female main character. A film that unfortunately has had a troubled production. After all, the whole project first entered development all the way back in August 2018. After that, there was nothing until Supergirl (then played by Sasha Calle) herself makes a cameo appearance in The Flash (2023) to hype up her own film.

Sadly, that would be it for Supergirl for the next few years as the cameo failed to create a film. It was only in January 2023 did we get news of the actual film, now titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. If you think that title sounds familiar, then you may be a fan of the comic book miniseries of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely that ran from 2021-2022. After all, that is what director Craig Gillespie and writer Ana Nogueira are basing their film on.

And from the looks of it, it appears that James Gunn has high hopes for this film adaptation. How else do you explain him dropping this kinda-sorta first look at Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow? And on Instagram, of all places.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Unofficial First Look: Details

In a post on Instagram, James Gunn has posted what may be the very first (and semi-official) look we have of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. In that post, he reveals a single image of Kara Zor-El (aka. the titular Supergirl), now played by Milly Alcock. The image shows Supergirl sitting with her back to the audience, and on a folding chair that wouldn’t look out of place on a movie set to boot. A chair that’s also emblazoned with the big red “S” logo that all the Supermen/women use as their logo. Supergirl herself is dressed in a comfy-looking hoodie, and is staring out at a neon-lit city of some sort. Said city is a bit blurred out. However, what we can see wouldn’t look too out of place in Cyberpunk 2077. At the very least, it’s a nice teaser to hype up the upcoming film.

Alas, it will still be a while before we can actually see Supergirl in action in her own film. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will make its theatrical debut on June 26, 2026. Thus, we’ll have plenty of time to wait before we see what James Gunn’s first look means.

Tune back in to THS to find out more about Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and other DC film when we do.
